![]() I prepared myself mentally that I might have to reach at least 200 Tol'vir solves before sniffing this out.The following is my guide to grinding this out as efficiently as possible as a level 85. Scepter of Azj'Aqir (and the Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank that it teaches) is arguably the most coveted artifact obtainable through Archaeology. If you get the severed hand companion, kick yourself in the head really hard and then cry for a while. So far, I'm the only one on Bladefist server with the mount, and I've only seen 1 person with the Troll sword. these things are supposed to be rare on each server, not like the the Horseman's Mount or the Bronze Drake. ![]() which made my Nerubian grind slightly less miserable.īottom line, if you get any of the L85 epics, or the bug mount, count yourself lucky and don't count on a repeat anytime in the near future. For me, the only rare from the second, more difficult set that I ended up with (as well as the NE trinket per the above), despite serious efforts for all of them was the bug mount scepter. You don't actually need any of the rarer set for the title, but if you don't get at least 1, get ready for a grueling grind for the 2 Nerubian rares. Grind long enough and you will get all of the first set of easier rares, of which there are exactly 18 (plus 1 for the NE trinket, and 1 for the fossil mount, to make 20), the same number you need for the Professor title. I got my NE trinket long after (like 50 solves after) I had finished all the other NE rares, about 20 for the fossil raptor after the companion. They likely share the same small chance of coming up as the other L85 gear, but if you are grinding Tol'vir, you most certainly end up with thousands of extra NE and fossil frags, so eventually they will pop up. The two exceptions are the NE trinket and fossil raptor mount. just take your chances of having it pop up while you go, and if it doesn't happen, that's life. My advice is that if you don't have it by the time you finish with all the other rares, give it up. The fact that some people get the mount on their first solve (like I did) is just beginner's luck. Every time you solve you have the same small chance of getting something good. This means that the chances of the mount, the Dwarf or Tol'vir staff, or the Troll or Tol'vir swords coming up is essentially unrelated to any of the other more-common "rare" solves. Most races have 0-1 items in this category, while Tol'vir has 4. My guess is somewhere between 0.5 and 1%. The chances of getting one of these to come up in your queue is quite small. The second set of rares is the really good stuff all the level 85 gear (minus the caster ring) and the bug mount. The proc coefficient (i.e, % chance) for this set is fairly high, and will come up every 4-10 solves or so. There appear to be two types of rares in archaeology The first set includes all the blue rares, the Nerubian (epic) rares, the low-level epic rares (NE, Orc, Vykrul) and the scarab storm and caster ring from Tol'vir. This is what I've learned so far, and I think its what most people want to know: Fortunately I did get the mount on my first of three Tol'vir rares. But from anecdotal evidence, my own realm and battlegroup, and your comments 0.73% seems damn close to what is probably a ~<1% drop rate.Ĭomment by 780163I now have the "Professor" title, and am pretty much done grinding archaeology. Of course this is not perfectly accurate but since no one seems to be collecting data on # of solves until certain rares are found (unless I'm mistaken) then this is possibly the best way to guess it on your own. So if my maths are right (correct me if I'm wrong!): I now assume that 50% of players have found the Scepter in less than 95 solves, and the remaining would find it after 95 solves. Previously I assumed that I had a 50% chance to have seen the recipe. To "predict" the drop rate without other data, I can use the same formula that I used to guess the drop rate of Recipe: Vial of Sands from Canopic Jars. This is about the same number of solves it took me to find Tyrande's Favorite Doll from Night Elf fragments, which seems to indicate that the drop rate is 1% or less - as I had a significant amount of night elf solves while leveling archaeology.
